New technology for stealing your car

"At about 9 pm a stranger knocked on the door then pulled out this small metal thing and held it up to the door for awhile before seemingly giving up and placing it back in his pocket. He looked nervous which in turn has made both of us very nervous and we cannot for the life of us figure out what he's pointing at the door. Worth noting in the video it's clearly not a phone."
Useful but disjointed discussion at the whatisthisthing subreddit.  I may have blogged about this before but can't find the link right now.

Just A Car Guy may have better information.

  1. Hi! Just a Car Guy here, and no, I don't know, or recall anything about it. But, the link you have for your readers to my blog is set at 2015, September, the week of the 6th to the 15th, and that's caused me to wonder why you chose that as the link?
I too think Whatisthisthing SubReddit is a good place to find out, but, without better photos, and more description, I can't see why you connect that image, with your post title, "New technology for stealing your car"
Nothing in your post mentions car theft
So, misleading title, mystery item in the image, and a link to my blog for an unknown reason as nothing in that weeks posts have anything to do with the image, or new tech for stealing cars. One post that week was about half a scissor that was used to attempt to steal a Toyota truck, but failed to make the ignition key tumblers function, and the scissor part was left in the ignition, the truck wasn't stolen.
You leave me with a lot of questions!
    That's highly unusual for you!

    1. I apparently got sloppy with my blogging that day. I've now amended the link to your blog to direct readers to the main page, not that archive index page.
