I think the correct answer to the zebra conundrum is given by Zen guru Alan Watts. "A zebra is neither a black horse with white stripes nor a white horse with black stripes. It is an invisble horse coloured black and white so people don't bump into it"
This is a form of brood parasitism wherein a speckled hen will sneak her eggs in amongst those in a zebra nest.
