Zebra foal spotted

Via.  Not much discussion at the link, and I don't have time to look this anomaly up right now.

Addendum: another image (via) -

- which incidentally shows that zebras are black with white stripes, not white with black stripes.

  1. This is a form of brood parasitism wherein a speckled hen will sneak her eggs in amongst those in a zebra nest.

    1. Shows how little I know--I didn't realize zebras even laid eggs!

    2. If the foal color is anomaly, doesn't prove color norm (black with white stripes) for adults. In photo, white wraps around parent zebra's rump in area with no stripes, suggesting white is base color.

It's not like no one has asked the question or investigated the answers. Black with white stripes.

  3. I think the correct answer to the zebra conundrum is given by Zen guru Alan Watts. "A zebra is neither a black horse with white stripes nor a white horse with black stripes. It is an invisble horse coloured black and white so people don't bump into it"
