You didn't have any "fun" activities at school? I feel for you. Even 30 years ago, we had a Halloween parade and dress up day. Also had "spirit" week, which i believe crazy hair day is likely part of.

Perhaps looking silly or different is a good lesson in not setting too much store in how you look, at the same time as encouraging imagination and a sense of fun and lightheartedness – while raising funds for a good cause.
People who show up at fancy dress events, not in fancy dress, are really the ones making a spectacle of themselves.
when i went to school, it was to learn, not to audition for a reality show.
