in the past, many different groups have used the 'hooked cross' symbol (with the hooks in either direction) in their belief systems. unfortunately, it took one such group to ruin it for everyone.

The contrast is illustrated starkly by these early 20th century "good luck" postcards with prominent swastikas on them. Hard to look at them now without a bit of unease...
