That is one of the most profound things I've ever read. Thank you for sharing that. Seriously. That moved me--and I will seek to share it with my students.
And it's not always hard work that is the problem, many many many people do not want to learn a SKILL. If you can't do it somewhat mindlessly then there is no interest.
I pay more than twice minimum wage and it's a struggle to find a competent worker. The work is not that complicated, you just have to be driven and have some self-respect for the work you do.
my friends and i all have BS degrees and have worked manual labor. it's sometimes hard to get a job if you're white because people know you won't work as hard.
When you see a manual laborer tell your kids no one can outsource that guys job .
