I'm sure it's obvious, but that little trick will only work if the "frosted" side faces the individual with the tape dispenser.
Anonymous' point is well taken. If security/privacy glass is frosted on the inside, you can't peer through it by applying tape to the outside.
In some cases, such as very very light frosting, you can also just spray it with water, if it's a thin coat of water it acts the same. (And dries up with no traces ^^)
