I went to Flagler College, which is directly across the street from this building - which now holds the Lightner Museum of oddball collections, and is truly an amazing and quirky place! Henry Flagler built it and at least two other hotels in St. Augustine, FL in the 1880s so that his rich friends - the Vanderbilts & Rockefellers and the like - could winter in Florida in style. Flagler College is housed in one of the former hotels, and it is lavish indeed! Tiffany stained glass in the dining hall?? What a place to spend four years.
