This song is familiar to most people because it topped the charts for weeks in the early 90s.
What is not generally recognized is that
the subject of the song is the death of Clapton's four-year old son, Conor, who accidentally fell from a 53rd-story window in New York. That knowledge may allow you to listen to the piece with renewed appreciation...
Reposted from 2008 because I like the song.
i knew what it was about, and i like the song, but i don't really like to listen to it - there's only so much of that kind of pain i am prepared to share.
ReplyDeleteI knew the subject, and it makes the song nearly unbearably sad. What amazes me is that he has been able to perform it in public at all.
ReplyDeleteIs that Kevin Eubanks next to him??
ReplyDeletePerhaps I am wrong, but I believe that many (most?) people were aware of that connection when the song wass released. In my memory it was widely reported. Great song, but incredibly sad.
