Timelapse of the development of Chicago

I have lots of concerns re AI, but I have to grudgingly admit that it can generate some absolutely awesome images and videos.  More re the concerns later, but first this embed of Chicago from 1870 to the present.  History Revived has lots of these.  I'll definitely do the Mexico City one later.

  1. Very, very cool, but I wish they had zoomed out enough to include the "White City" the World's Fair of 1893, with the enormous first ever Ferris Wheel, as part of it became today Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. Devil in the White City is a heck of a book, if anyone is looking for an oldie but goodie.

    1. I read the book many years ago -

    2. BTW, the Wikipedia page indicates that the book may be adapted into a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio

  2. Everyone is sharing this and it's completely wrong in many respects. The el does not run along the north side of the Chicago River. The Sears Tower is also not north of the river. Etc, etc, etc. I'm perhaps irrationally angry about it but I hate it. I assume all the other cities that have this effect are equally wrong, but it's Chicago I know.
