You're right. I was using the term to mean "waterside", but the Latin etymology clearly specifies "river." I guess I've gotten sloppy because in Wisconsin and Minnesota, the term "riparian" applies to various regulations regarding lakeshore as well as riverside land. Thus I extrapolated to ocean.
I don't know if there is an equivalent term for oceanside. I may take down the post.
Had to look up riparian. Isn't it a riverbank? These folks are on an Atlantic Ocean beach.
