Regarding the first cartoon, one of my favorite sayings is, "We are not a bowling team with a drinking problem, we are a drinking team with a bowling problem!"
"Engagement" is marketing lingo, spin and a Euphemism for manipulating/baiting/riling up/trolling/binding and a lot of things including emotions or sensless activity, like coupon gathering, collecting etc. It means "keep the subjects caring and busy, while pretending" so really, there should be a much less positive expression to describe this important concept, something less associated with marriage. I've always stuggled to find one, without resorting to straight up calling people consumer-whores. In the past I used various metaphors 'keep people in suspense, suspended on a fishing line or puppet strings" to communicate this concept. It's just just too convoluted. One thing I know, you can't be parroting fraudulent marketing, to explain it. I like the term ELICIT but can't quite phrase it right.

ReplyDeleteThe second cartoon is as well stated as I've ever seen
