Friends of mine recently hiked the John Muir Trail. The fire had started just before they came down from Mt. Whitney. What a tragedy to see such beauty burned!
Well if it's truly a wildfire (and not arson) then this really isn't a tragedy. It's entirely necessary for the health of the wilderness. The environment has evolved with fire since the beginning of an oxygen-rich atmosphere and many organisms depend on occasional fires to stay healthy and continue survive.
