One of the most difficult things of going into decline is KNOWING that you are. If you didn't know, it might be different. But when some keep asking if you are alright, since you are forgetting things, ouch.
It is especially hurtful for those of us who have always been known to be extra bright. And thought I am not in the hands of dementia (although I suffer more and more, it seems, from DUMB-mentia, I do find that I am no longer willing to read through endless legalese or boilerplate credit card terms. I just cut to the chase. Of course, maybe that will be a defense if a credit card company comes for me: Perhaps I'll have to plead that I...forgot.
My understanding is that age-related forgetfulness is not the same as true dementia, and not necessarily a precursor of such. But that's not an area of expertise for me.
My mom is going through this, I'm trying to be patient and understanding but some days. It's great when I can get some time to myself. Unfortunately we don't have a diagnosis as she hates doctors and won't go (not a new thing).
Ah ha ha ha ha ha! Sounds like my wife; she will watch reruns of reruns on TV.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure she is your ACTUAL wife ?

DeleteDementia jokes are funny to those who have never met it.
