Aggressive parking countered by passive-aggressive parking

Angry with someone for taking part of a second parking space?  One suggestion is to respond like this.

Discussed in a Reddit thread.

  1. the danger is the 'conflict' escalating. With the driver of the second vehicle not around, the jerk who parked their vehicle poorly may decide to extract some 'revenge' in the form of a scratch or dent. Personally, I just shake my head at the stupidity of the driver who takes two spots then forget about it. Letting go of trivial things is important to our sanity :)

  2. I've definitely done this. Often, the larger vehicle is much more valuable than my 1995 beater. Poor parking comes standard with a fully equipped Escalade these days.

  3. I saw this recently in a parking lot at the mall. However it was the person on the left who had crossed over into the parking spot on the right, so the person correctly parked had their driver door blocked. This led me to believe that it was a case of someone being correctly parked, and then some idiot coming along and blocking in their driver's side door by parking so their backend was only a couple of inches from the other car. That guy deserved a good keying.

  4. I would love to do this. Unfortunately I would fear reprisal from a jacka$$ who is so self-important that s/he takes two spots.

  5. Let's face it, folks: Some people simply cannot park at all.
Let it go; move on to another spot, as I have done so many times.

  6. Haha!! I've totally counter-parked back when I had my awesome 1988 Sentra. My most recent time, someone was in the car next to me. They yelled at me that I was parking too close and I could not get out without hitting their car. I got out, didn't touch their car at all, and asked, "I'm sorry, what?"

  7. The one time I tried this I found my side mirror destroyed. I guess he didn't see my point.

  8. I used to get angry at this sort of stuff, but really, unless you saw the guy park, you can't be sure what happened.

He may have parked badly because he was forced to by a (now departed) bad parking job. Or as David Foster Wallace pointed out in his Kenyon College speech, the bad parking person may have been in a hurry for a good reason.

A few months ago I was leaving a local store and saw a badly parked car. I went into my reflexive "what an asshole" brain rant. A moment later I saw a very elderly man tottering along using his shopping cart as a support. You guessed it, the old guy reached the "evil bad guy car" and proceeded to unlock the trunk and slowly unload his stuff.

I'm gonna yell at him for getting old?

About all I could do was laugh.

    Cheers.

  9. A brand new shiny escalade was doing this just today to me. He had no spot to the right of him (he was on the end spot) and parked crossing into the next spot. I parked my tiny econo-car in the spot anyway, and left him about 2" to open his door. He'll either damage his shiny escalade trying to get in, or climb in from the passenger's side. If he trashes my car, I couldn't care less. It barely runs as-is!
