Encountered while walking yesterday. It's interesting how the dandelion adapts its flower stem to its microenvironment. In tall grasses the stem may reach up almost a foot before the flower opens. In open places (yards), the flower hugs the ground.
Including the buds and ones going to seed, I count 40 blossoms on this one plant. I wonder if I could enter it at the State Fair...
the dandelion would be a very appealing garden flower, if the leafy plant part wasn't so appalling...
