"In rural Minnesota, a fringe Heathen group known as the Asatru Folk Assembly has purchased a local church – and membership is strictly whites-only. They worship Nordic, pre-Christian gods and they call themselves a 'folk religion' that only accepts those with northern European ancestry. Their racially exclusive ideology is protected by the first amendment.Amudalat Ajasa visits the church to understand how it is gaining influence across the country and to meet the anti-racist Heathens fighting back to reclaim their religion."
I couldn't watch this all the way through, but I'll post it because it's important to know about the existence of groups like the Asatru Folk Assembly.
As an Australian I watch documentaries like this and I am sad for America and how divided it has become or has it always been so divided and media has just made it more noticeable to the outside world? We may not be perfect, but I am glad to live here and not there.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to say this, but Australia has a similar problem that it doesn't like to acknowledge. If you doubt what I say, ask an Aborigine.
DeleteSuperstition always seems to haul a huge bag of garbage behind it; in this case the garbage is right out front.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, what a delightful planet we live on.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that they use Elder Futhark to write modern English (6:12 - the inscription reads "Jason Gallagher AFA Folk Builder") is pretty comical though.
As a person of one hundred percent northern European ancestry, on both my parents, and my wife's, and with all of us having deep roots both in Europe and North America, I deeply resent their misappropriation of my cultural heritage.
ReplyDeleteYea, it's just plain old racism with a twist. I know a couple people that follow the old Norse religion and just mentioning these people is enough to start a rage rant.
