Shiny mirror balls as tools for movie special effects
I'm always fascinated by special effects in movies. This video explains in 8 minutes how some remarkable renderings are achieved. Fascinating. But I still don't understand...
This is really fascinating and makes me think of similar effects in painting--most notably Parmigianino's "Self Portrait In A Convex Mirror", which inspired John Ashbery's poem. Van Eyck also included a convex mirror in his Arnolfini portrait. And returning to the subject of literature, the protagonist of Margaret Atwood's novel Cat's Eye describes a self portrait, titled "Cat's Eye", with a convex mirror in the background reflecting the back of her head, "but the hair is different, younger."
