I used to work in large-format printing, producing work for trade show displays, and this is an effect I'd have to explain to clients when they wanted a grid of photo. It was less dramatic, but from a distance, the colors start to blend and you can get the effect which distracts from the content.
there are 35 dots. the one you are staring at is white; the other 34 are black.

Interestingly, if you can manage to stare at two, or three, at a time, they stay white too. How does this work?
