Peachtree, Georgia runs on golf carts

Stick with the story at least until you see the parking lot at the local high school.

  1. An interesting case of the success of electric powered 'cars'.

  2. Peachtree City, Georgia /pedant

As he points out, you need to build out the parallel road network sufficiently to make this a good alternative. Starting in the 60s without a built out city to contend with lets you do that. Note also, these are short local trips. No one is going up to Atlanta, even if they had a safe lane to drive in. There is a market niche for small urban transport vehicles (like Japan's Kei cars) but we are wedded to the seating for five/trunk space for 2 weeks of luggage model.
