Prophetic words from Rod Serling

This Twilight Zone closing summary has been widely cited in recent months:
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children, and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.
Those were the final words from the broadcast of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street (1960).

  1. A perennial societal (ie- human) trait that has forever guaranteed our ultimate doom- particularly now that the planet itself is in the initial stages of human induced metastasis. Those inherent human insecurities will only increase and intensify as we struggle to survive in a world where resources will dwindle and ultimately disappear.

I sincerely hope we do not survive to spread our contagion elsewhere in the universe.

  2. The United States is living in the Twilight Zone right now, with facts and alternate facts, facts called lies. and a big baby in the White House who only thinks about himself and his wants.
