Sulfur

Photo from a group of 30 assembled at Boston.com's The Big Picture. The mineral is beautiful, but the mining/harvesting technique is medieval and appears brutal.

  1. Shudder- I recall camping trips as a Girl Scout in Pennsylvania in the early 1970s. Water had to be brought to the campgrounds for drinking. Water from the local taps contained a great deal of sulfur. Particularly foul memories were created when many girls were at the sinks running hot water. It was a mystery to me as a child as to how the local people surrounding the camp managed to abide their water supply.
