Beata Ludovica Albertoni (detail), Bernini

Boy, could that guy sculpt.
A student of Classical sculpture, Bernini possessed the unique ability to capture, in marble, the essence of a narrative moment with a dramatic naturalistic realism which was almost shocking. This ensured that he effectively became the successor of Michelangelo, far outshining other sculptors of his generation...

  2. I just moved away from Italy after living in Rome for about a year and I was lucky enough to see a lot of fantastic Bernini pieces while I was there. It's amazing to see life breathed into art no matter what the medium, but to me there is something extra impressive about sculpting stone.

  3. Yes! My first love was Rodin. Then, I saw the Pieta at the vatican and sobbed. Finally I saw Bernini at the Villa d'Este. I had to hold my hands tightly so that I wouldn't touch the lovely, lovely sculptures.
