Red cage fungus looks like a buckyball

Phallaceae > Colus sp (Crabpot Stinkhorn).  Also known as Red Basket or Cage Fungi.  The Phallaceae, or stinkhorns, are a family of basidiomycetes which produce a foul-scented, phallus-shaped mushroom.

  1. Hi there! I recently took a picture in Zambia of a similar looking 'cage fungus' to this one, but not exactly. It is bright yellow and more 'smooth' and transparent looking. I cannot find anything close to this on the internet. Do you perhaps have more info on it?

I personally don't have any additional information. Your best chance for an identification would be to submit the photo to a university department.
