Sherlock Holmes

Hollywood has apparently decreed that Sherlock Holmes is now an "action hero," but for me he will always be the cerebral sleuth of drawing rooms and foggy streets. Golden Age Comic Book Stories has a collection of covers from Colliers, and the movie posters depicting Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce in their iconic roles.

  1. I don't follow you, what do you mean 'an action hero'? Has some brilliant director made a movie with Sherlock looking/behaving like the Superman for example?

  2. I haven't seen the new movie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_Holmes_%282009_film%29), but my understanding is that it is heavy on the side of explosions, special effects, and hand-to-hand combat.

  3. Based on the preview trailers alone, I have no interest in the new movie.

While I enjoy a good action hero flick, I'm in agreement with you on the type of movie we should see Sherlock in.

As an aside: what was the last good mystery movie released? I can't think of any really good mysteries lately.
