Rocket to Uranus

An old Mitch Miller album apparently associated with the 1950s television series Tom Corbett, Space Cadet, which had a marching song and a pledge:

I solemnly swear to defend the liberty of the Planets;
to safeguard the freedom of space
and uphold the cause of peace throughout the universe.
To this end, I dedicate my life.

One can't help but imagine that when that album was being created there was a bit of nudge-nudge-wink-wink going on.

  1. I remember being impressed with one episode of Space Cadets where the villains smashed all the tubes in the transmitter of the Polaris and Tom and the Cadets decided that they could call for help if they went into space where there was a vacuum so that the tubes would work.
    What a great show full of real science very unlike Captain Video.

    1. That is because a real, serious Science and Science Fiction writer created Tom Corbett. One Issac Asimov.
