Baptist church will conduct Bible burning

The Amazing Grace Baptist Church will host a bonfire on Halloween, burning "Satan's works."

"Satan's works" include all non-King-James versions of the Bible.
"I believe the King James version is God's preserved, inspired, inerrant and infallible word of God," Pastor Marc Grizzard told a local news station of his 14-member parish.
Other items to be burned include "the work of "heretics" including the Pope, Mother Teresa, Billy Graham and Rick Warren."

Those who accuse the Taliban of harboring a 15th-century mentality should visit some parts of America.

  2. 14 members, but what an AMAZING amount of free publicity the media and blogging world have given them!

  3. True, but I'll guarantee they don't get any new members from TYWKIWDBI readers.

What the heck does this mean? If you visit this part of America, the Taliban don't have a 15th-century mentality? That makes no sense.

Now, if they gather 'round the old bonfire and start slitting throats of unbelievers and forcing their wimmenfolk back into the kitchen, you got a comparison.

  5. To Bill Peschel:

It means that this church is attempting to rid their "world" of anything that doesn't reflect their exact beliefs. This happened a lot in the Dark Ages as intellectual progress was halted by keeping information from the people. The Taliban and this Baptist church are doing the same thing today.

Not only is this "15th-century" but it's also pretty un-American. And I would bet that all 14 members of that "church" watch Glenn Beck and/or Bill O'Reilly every night - both of whom have compared our current president to Satan and Hitler.

I work with a woman who was born and raised in Amsterdam. I recently asked her if she thought that America is turning into an extremist country. She said, "a little bit."

  6. This re-post does not give a location of this church, and the attribution site at the bottom doesn't look very authoritative. Sorry, but this has all the hallmarks of a hoax email or half-cocked tale. No attribution, no reputable source link and no names of towns, or in this case the location of the "local radio station" and it remains totally suspect to this very old retired journalist.

  7. If you follow the links in my post it takes you to an ABC News local affiliate television station-

That of course doesn't prove validity, but it's the best I can do tonight...

  8. I went back and dug deeper into the first posted link and found that this is, indeed, a genuine story, or should I say a modern day time warp from another era. The parallels to the Taliban mentality are sad.

  9. I wonder how this would go over today?
