The
Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, located on the northeastern coast of Brazil, features a landscape of immense sand dunes interspersed with seasonal fresh water. I saw for the first time last night while watching the movie "
House of Sand," and had to keep telling myself "This is Brazil" because I've been so conditioned to equate Brazil with rain forest.
According to Wiki there is an
interesting resort in the center of this national park, accessible only via a 45-minute off-road drive across dunes and beach. Photos
here.
Just got back from exploring Brazil's Northern coastline - wish I'd made it as far along the coast as here -furthest North I made it was to Jericoacoara - I'll have to head back soon!
