If you take a look at this chart it is just the colors right along the straight diagonal line that we cannot produce with a single LASER.

Colors inside the curve particularly those over by blue (which sure look purple to me) are capable of being produced by a LASER and may appear in a rainbow.nolanddahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12708768497461983779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912713243046142041.post-32685802987693199632012-03-08T18:20:50.306-06:002012-03-08T18:20:50.306-06:00Please stop spreading traffic crumbs to that ignor...Please stop spreading traffic crumbs to that ignorant and needlessly provocative NPR story about pink.Zhoenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03515663141425057088noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912713243046142041.post-40043232315277123452012-03-08T17:23:54.616-06:002012-03-08T17:23:54.616-06:00@nolannda

The concept/...Re: pink - See the line of purples.

The concept/experience of pink certainly exists at least as much as other mental constructs like "green" or "peace" or "painful" or "cold" exist.

Colors falling along the line of purples are special because they are non-spectral colors. They arise out of our brains interpolating between two signals received simultaneously by our L cones (long wavelength = red) and our S cones (short wavelength = blue).

There is no single wavelength of light (such as from a LASER) that could create those colors. It would take two LASERs working together to cause our brains to experience a color along the line of purples.nolanddahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12708768497461983779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912713243046142041.post-8327008613725525592012-03-08T13:58:32.673-06:002012-03-08T13:58:32.673-06:00Re: Fish and Lasers

I am a SCUBA instructor (among other things) and several years ago it was demonstrated that some fish respond quite well to laser pointers (several youtube videos exist). It seems that green lasers are preferable, as the red light spectrum is the most quickly absorbed in the water column (gone by 33 feet). Different species seem to respond to a greater or lesser degree. I've been wanting to get a green laser to play with, as the beam is stronger and more visible underwater. I have driven it and its parallel road a few times and if you think a drive across Kansas or West Tx. is boring the Trace makes it a trifecta of dullness.

It is mile after mile (at 50mph) of a 2 lane tree lined tunnel with the occasional glimpse of a field. It is like driving from E. Tx. to Georgia through a 500 mile tunnel of trees. Not that I have anything against trees but after the first million they can get a bit monotonous.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
