International mail disruptions

From the USPS website.  None of these are surprising, but it's interesting to note that they are advising people not even to try sending mail now.  Imagine how this is rippling through the business communities involved.

  1. Why would Bhutan be on the list? I read https://kuenselonline.com/ as well as Indian news and can see no particular problems with Bhutan.

    1. "The Postal Service™ has temporarily suspended acceptance of Priority Mail Express International to Niue due to unavailability of transportation."

(maybe they can't afford it, or maybe some critical infrastructure (planes etc) are being consumed by the U.S./Israel/Iran war. I don't know.

  3. I worked in international logistics for many years in Australia, I suggest that Niue is probably on the list because there were very few air OR sea services to/from there in the first place… I was on first-name basis with the handful of agents that could quote me rates to/from many pacific islands, and the services were volatile at the best of times… the air services might have been twice-weekly, then maybe weekly or fortnightly, during lulls, later to pick up again in a relatively predictable cycle. I left logistics a smidge before COVID. Those services that remained in place up to now will have been heavily impacted by the pandemic, and those services which didn’t fold outright will now be potentially even more affected by the fuel shortage affecting Australasia and Oceania in general… in AU we’re preparing for fuel soon becoming entirely unavailable in both rural and urban areas, I imagine the situation must be even more dire for many of our oceanic cousins.

  4. Haven't a bunch of countries "suspended" parcel mail to America because of tariffs?
