Addendum:
From the nation’s capital to Fort Worth, Texas, from Florin, California, in the west to the Bronx, New York, in the east, the Fourth of July long weekend in the US was overshadowed by 16 mass shootings in which 15 people were killed and nearly 100 injured.
What's wrong with people???

  1. What's wrong with people? They have been given a right to have guns, and are not required to show any responsibility to go along with that right. That's what's wrong.

  2. The rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights were not “given” to anyone. You are born with these rights. It may have taken some time for some of those rights to be recognized and put in writing, but no government gave them to us.

And I suppose you might have a right to use dangerous explosives to injure yourself and destroy your own property, but that right ends when you endanger children and others. Kind of like 2A.

  3. I own some guns. I am required to submit to a background check to purchase a weapon. This can take several weeks. No problem. I am required, by law, to prevent others from using them without permission. That means gun locks and gun safes. Fine with that. That means no loaded weapons transported in vehicles. Sounds reasonable. That means a 40 hour course in gun safety if I wish to carry a weapon (I don’t). That means criminal and civil liability if a gun registered in my name is used in a crime. I have to show ID to buy ammunition. What other right requires this level of responsibility? And I am fine with these requirements.

Criminals tend not to adhere to any of these policies. How about a minimum 10 year sentence if you are caught illegally possessing a weapon? In the state I live in, if you are caught with a stolen weapon, that’s a misdemeanor. If you are a minor, the law says you don’t serve time for a misdemeanor. If my son gets one of my guns and shoots a bird in the backyard, I could get 3 to 5 years.

    Really, no responsibility?
