"Button, Button" was horrifying due to the ethical dilemma. But we all know people who would not have a dilemma because they have no ethics. Think pieces do not work for people who do not think.

Which in turn seems to be derivative of W. W. Jacobs' classic "The Monkey's Paw" from back in 1911.
