  1. It is astounding to me that humanity even knew that planet existed without the technology of the 20th century. I suppose I'm being era-ist.

    1. More like light-pollutionist :) The sky used to be a lot brighter in the olden days, and Mercury is definitely noticeable to the keen observer. When its position is right, it appears as a dim little star that rises/sets close to the Sun.
