A cautionary image for the Fourth of July

This should be a res ipsa loquitur image, but the anatomy is so distorted that I'll point out it is the xray of the hand of a man who was holding a mortar firework when it exploded.  He underwent surgical amputation last summer, endured excruciating phantom limb pain 24/7, became addicted to opioids, and finally obtained relief from peripheral nerve stimulation.  Details at the Wisconsin State Journal.

I have traditionally reposted the story of Jacqueline Saburido on New Year's Eves.  Perhaps I should post Ben Shortreed's hand film every Fourth of July.
