Solar skin damage


My father was a traveling salesman in the era before AC was common in cars.  I don't remember any facial asymmetry, but his left elbow was always more darkly pigmented than the rest of his body.  Via.

An odd fact: back when railways were operated by steam locomotives, most of their drivers had tanned left arms in summer as they sat on the left, except for Great Western Railway drivers (who sat on the right for historical reasons - despite their trains running on the left-hand track as per UK practice) who had tanned right arms.

  2. This picture is why I get exercise by walking in the shade and in the evening. I'm not a fan of the suntan.
