Narrowboat ride on an English canal

One of a long series of soothing videos, seemingly narrated by the voice of Wallace and Gromit cartoons.

Reposted from 2020 to add this interesting video about living on a narrowboat:

  1. Interesting, and comforting to watch, too. Thanks for posting this!

  2. I follow him on youtube. He also has his show (Cruising the Cut, season 1 & 2) on Amazon Prime. A couple other narrowboaters are also on prime - Travels by Narrowboat (soon starting its 7th season, Country House Gent on y/t) as well as Britian by Narrowboat (aka Foxes Afloat on y/t).

The shows are nice to watch, rather calming, actually. It's nice to see other countries and people.

  3. an interesting slice of life travelogue, and a giggle worthy british accent, but perhaps one star below what it needed to be featured on TYWKIWDBI?

  4. Great YT channel. Also The Narrowboat Experience and Foxes Afloat for some banter.

  5. As a regular blog visitor and long term narrow boat owner it's lovely to see the British inland waterways featured. There are around 2000 miles of navigable rivers and canals in the UK ranging from narrow canals such as the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal (or "Staffs & Worcs) that's featured in the linked video to major rivers like the Thames.
The Wallace & Gromit films were narrated by the wonderful Peter Sallis rather than the owner of the YT channel. You can see him in the flesh if you watch any of the episodes of "Last of the Summer Wine", well worth watching if you enjoy English regional accents and gentle humour.
I'd be interested to know why charlie regards the accent as "giggle worthy"! For many more giggles I recommend watching recordings of the unstoppable Ken Dodd performing.

  6. the canal system is huge, but only the narrow boats can traverse all of it. the wide boats are too wide for the narrow sections.

    I-)

  7. Ah. You are seemingly not a real Wallace and Gromit fan, that bloke doesn't sound like Peter Sallis to me !

  8. When I saw "How Not to Open a Lock," I thought I would see the upside doors opened too quickly, washing the boat downstream, etc. Instead...it's all rather proper. I think we should call it "Excruciatingly Good Behavior."

  9. I will second the recommendation for Foxes Afloat on YouTube. The production values are high, the hosts are personable, and the commentary is educational. They have now moved to more sedentary pursuits, but the first few hundred vlog entries are available and worthy of your attention.

  10. "How Not to Open a Lock" refers to the part in that video where the boat smashes into the lock door and shoves it aside as it barrels through.

  11. What's the story with that guy's glasses (the host of the first video)? When you look at his eyes through the glasses, you see this smaller face. What vision problem are they correcting?
