A Canadian watches the first presidential debate

Here is James Fallows' commentary on the spectacle (which I didn't waste time watching).

In my view there's not much point in having two more debates, which are unlikely to change many voters' minds.  Let's vote already.  As T.S. Eliot said in Murder in the Cathedral
"... We wait, and the time is short
But waiting is long."

  2. I wasn't going to watch it, but I did, and now I feel dirty. Like after watching vagrants fighting under an overpass.

  4. I'm surprised that Chris Wallace (or anyone else) was surprised by trump's behavior. Did anyone really expect him to behave like a civilized human being?

  5. When your opponent won't play by the rules - DON'T PLAY!
Moderator/referee should have just said "Stop, Stop, Stop"
Until order was restored or time was up.
It really would have helped Wallace if he had experience with groups of small children.
Simply saying "If you don't behave I'm going to turn this car around" would have fixed the entire issue.
