The old Cincinnati library

The building was demolished in the 1950s.  One comment in the discussion thread noted that the reason for this open vertically-stacked shelving array was that the old library had been repurposed from an even older opera house.

  1. i forget which library it was now, but when you went in to the stacks, the floors were glass, frosted by the wear of shoes.

  2. Cornell University recently opened their new Fine Arts/Architecture Library. It is similar in some ways, including the vertigo inducing effect on upper levels. Has open metal grate flooring that is controversial. Yes, it allows the library to appear as a single volume and create a good airflow, but also is a navigation problem for those wearing heels... and skirts... as observed from the levels below. https://www.metropolismag.com/architecture/educational-architecture/cornell-fine-arts-library/
