Part of a newspaper page I found in our family memorabilia. Dodge County, Minnesota encompasses the area around Rochester. This type of reporting was standard fare around the country in this era - a tabulation of the seemingly mundane activities of everyone's neighbors. ReplyDeleteMy grandparents are from Dodge Center; using this 'Local News' column over the course of a few months, I was able to track their movements and add some information about them (and my grand-aunt) as part of my genealogical research.
ReplyDeletea newspaper that covered the north east kingdom of vermont carried those at least until the mid 1980s. one year, being on vacation there, i submitted an item about 'motoring' there and 'sightseeing' and 'visiting', etc., all in the 'flavor' of how those items are written.

On the flip side of my wedding announcement, there is the local news that looks a lot like this clipping. A favorite phrase: Kool-Aid was served �� My mother was the local reporter for our tiny town for awhile. She would send one of us around knocking on doors with a clipboard and pencil to get the news on who visited who.
