Just posting to say that Vista, California, where this occurred, is my home town. There are a LOT of poor kids there, mostly minorities, but not all. I rarely see news from my home town so this one was a surprise! Long time reader, first time caller!
In my view the problem is not the labor per se. In my family children worked for things. The problem here is the need for this girl to work to pay for school lunches for these children.
Definitely not a feel-good story. Just an example of everything wrong with America.
