Washing removes numbers and scale from a measuring cup

  1. Yes, one of my pet peeves! Not to mention that some of them use wussy colors that you can barely see even when they're new. Forget a better mousetrap; can someone please create a better measuring cup with indelible markings?

  2. I have that same cup! I use it to scoop cat food from the bag.

  3. It didn't change the cup's size, though. It still works fine. Cup, 1/2 cup, 1/4 cup, 1/8 cup. Not close enough for chemistry or drug commerce, but close enough for cooking.

What I noticed was the handle. All the pyrex glass measuring cups everywhere have a handle like that now, just a long straight hook. My wife Juanita had a measuring cup that she had since she was a little girl, and I reached past where it was hanging and broke it. It had an ear-shaped handle that went smoothly into the cup at top and bottom like a coffee cup's handle does. We have a rule where all I have to do when I break or lose something precious to her --a book, hard drive, fender, whatever-- is to replace it with /the same thing, the same size, the same color/. In this case I can't find the same thing. I mean, did they stop making ear-shaped closed handles on measuring cups because some lawyer's child got his fingers stuck in one?

      - although neither of ours had an ear-shaped handle.
