In Sweden, a "fart" can go backwards or forwards

  1. In English, a bakåt fart is called a hiccup.

  2. Lol. Even if you know it's Swedish it's still funny. :)

  3. I've always liked the German phrase, "volle Fahrt voraus!" (Full speed ahead)

  4. If you go full fart ahead, you'd better give a toot on the whistle to warn people.

  5. Obviously a cognate for the German "Fahrt"--trip, or drive, or in this case, maximum drive.

BTW, if you know German and English, I've found that you can _decipher_ Dutch, though it may take some thinking and some reading-out-loud to get what the Dutch is saying. Works about 90%+ of the time.

    1. The root exists in English too: fare, as in farewell etc. Ferry and ford are also related: https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/fare
