  6. In London in the 1980s I went to an Australian dentist who had on the wall of her surgery a map entitled 'Kelly's Corrective Map of the World' and in it Australia was in the top left hand corner - bloody strines!

  7. Just a reminder: a Mercator projection is a navigational chart, not a 'map' that accurately renders shape and area. Draw a straight line between any two points on a Mercator projection and you've got the short great-circle route. That's its purpose.
