Marble veil and a marble net

"Veiled Lady by Rafaello Monti, c.1860, held by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts"
Via Stuff about Minneapolis.

Reposted from 2016 to add this remarkable marble work:

"Deception" (Il Disinganno), by Francesco Queirolo,  carved from a single block of marble in 1752-59. shows a fisherman being released from a net by an angel.  It's hard for me to conceive of the superhuman skill involved in carving that netting from marble.

  4. Where is it in DC? Likely candidate is west wing of the (Smithsonian) Natn'l Gallery of Art... Wikipedia says Naples, though.

Unless anon was referring to the veiled lady. Perhaps it traveled here (DC).

    2. ahahahah actually there are legends about the owner of the Cappella Sansevero (The Church in Naples where the Disinganno statue is) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raimondo_di_Sangro
He was said to be an alchemist who created this InstaMarb like potion hahahah! Mainly because in the Cappella there are two other veiled statues http://www.museosansevero.it/images/gallery/1_cristo_velato2.jpg and https://internettuale.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/antonio-corradini-la-pudicizia-cappella-sansevero-napoli-scultura-storia-dellarte-frontale-internettuale.jpg

and two anatomical models which are said to be real instamarbled people... http://www.napolidavivere.it/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/macchine-anatomiche-cappella-sansevero.jpg (warning kind of graphic content)

Sansevero chapel is a pretty fascinating place
