An alpine toboggan run for summer tourists

The toboggan run is located at the top station of the cable car Oeschinensee. To get there, take the cable car (about 8 minutes) from Kandersteg to Oeschinen. Alternatively, can be reached via the trail to the toboggan run. The walk takes 1.5 hours.
Looks like total fun. 750 meters.  Costs only 4 Swiss francs (about US $4).

Via Neatorama.

  1. It is quite fun, I had never heard of it until I came to Austria. Tried it in Salzburg one Summer, they call it "Sommerrodeln", summer tobogganing :)

  2. We rode one of those (in Vermont I believe) when in our twenties. The challenge was to go down... without once using the brake. You'd lower your center of gravity as much as possible, but there was one spot halfway down where you'd absolutely have to use it on a curve- or go flying right off. It uh... took me two times to positively verify that.

Later on that day, having a beer at the bar at the end of the ride, the bartender turned around and asked, "Hey, did you catch those maniacs going down before?"

  3. As someone living close to the Alps, I am used to summer tobogganing.

What's noteworthy to me is the music and announcement of a full video being released later. The presentation of even mundane actions as events and happenings never ceases to fascinate me.

    1. You could also turn that around: seeing the wonderful things you have as mundane - such as that absolutely stunning Alpine scenery. Don't forget that many people live in places like these.

  4. Did you know that there is one of these at Lutsen, MN?

    1. I did not know that. I usually don't get further up the North Shore than Two Harbors. Tx.
