I have a DVD copy of _The Mission_, but only because I was given it as a gift (by someone who knows my parents better than me). I don't remember how much of it I've watched. Some, but not all.
I have been listening to Morricone's spaghetti Western music for the last week. Coincidence? My favorite is the soundtrack from Once Upon a Time in the West.
the Mission was dedicated to Jesuits who died defending the human rights of the indigenous in South America. But the other themes in the movie are: How does one obtain forgiveness for the unforgivable sin (Robert Niro) and of course, how does one resist evil? By prayer and peaceful resistance, or do you take up arms? The first worked for Ghandi and Cory Aquino, but alas often it results only in martyrs, as in Archbishop Romero...
