Gary Cooper (1930)

Radiologists viewing this photo will wonder whether Cooper is exhibiting a positive or a negative Throckmorton sign (or John Thomas sign).

Photo (a publicity still from The Texan) found at Haroldlloyds tumblr, via Curiosites de Titam.

  1. Definitely looks like a gay-ish pose. However, wikipedia has no mention of any such tendencies on Cooper's part.

    Perhaps Cooper was just having fun with the pose, trying for a "western fop" type of effect.

    1. Okay, if you Google "Gary Cooper gay" you get a number of stories indicating a bisexual nature. Many of the links sport rumors, so it's not a settled issue.

  3. A couple of things to know about Cooper and about this movie:
    1. He did, in fact, suffer from a hip injury (incurred in a car accident when he was 15);
    2. He was playing a character masquerading as the son of a wealthy South American woman, so the pomade and pants are undoubtedly a part of the costume.
