Two more weeks of this...

The "caller ID" no longer works on my office phone, so yesterday when I answered it, I heard "Hi !! This is [politician].  I know everybody hates robocalls, but..." [click]

I have grown not to just despise the politicians, but to hate the process.

  1. My husband and I both received two copies each of the same pamphlet in the mail the other day. All this spamming of my internet, phone, sidewalks, front door, and mailbox makes me want to *not* vote.

  2. I agree with you both. It's overwhelmingly stupid. You can't blame the candidates though, because apparently, we're in the minority when it comes to not wanting to hear someone berate and ridicule someone else, accusing them of all manner of horrible things, just to get a vote.

It would be interesting to try to have a "double-blind" election, just once, to see how things go. I don't know how you could truly do it though, without a massive overhaul of even local election systems.

  3. I have been receiving full color large ads for months, both in my daily newspaper and the mail, for a candidate not running in my district. And I am so sick of the scads of daily emails asking me to donate to various politicians, I decided not to give a dime to any of them.

  4. Somehow I have remained off the grid for the past couple of cycles. I am even politically involved. I'm not sure how it has happened but I am very glad. First rule of avoiding this garbage: avoid local TV stations (or just TV altogether for the best effect on your everyday life.) I don't know why I don't get the mailers, I am a registered voter. I don't get phone calls because I only have a cell phone, no land line. I believe that in MO it is illegal to call a cell phone for a survey or political calls since you may be costing a person money by using their minutes.

Unfortunately this is necessary for the candidates, they really have no other choice. Negative campaigning and volume are the best methods.
