A walkway in Jerez

Apparently those are grapevines, not trees.
“Jerez” is the hispanicized version of “Sherish” which was its Moorish name when the town was under Islamic rule. The English speaking world modified the Arabic into “Sherry,” Jerez being the origin of Sherry wines.

  2. Such porches, patios and walkways are typical in the Mediterranean. They self-retract when the weather gets cold, but do have the disadvantage of splattering the pavers.
