A visual history of nuclear weapons testing

"Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto has created a beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project's "Trinity" test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan's nuclear tests in May of 1998....

Each nation gets a blip and a flashing dot on the map whenever they detonate a nuclear weapon, with a running tally kept on the top and bottom bars of the screen... It starts really slow — if you want to see real action, skip ahead to 1962 or so..."

  1. You might be interested to read what some Marines on the ground saw during Shot Hood "the dirtiest atomic explosion in the US-" namely, human beings shackled to a chain link fence within the perimeter of the blast along with the other dead animals used for study.

  2. Stan B.:

I would strongly suspect that those human beings (if they really were actual humans, rather then "simulated" humans, such as store models or crash-test dummies, etc) were already dead, and they had either donated their body to science, or had had it donated to science after their death, either because they were indignant, or under the care of the Goverment (at a State Hospital or prison).

    1. Highly unlikely they would handcuff and shackle mannequins in the same place with live animals. It's just speculation on either of our parts, but I wouldn't be surprised if they used living prison lifers- if you don't think they'd stoop to such lows, recall The Tuskegee Experiment, not to mention the sexual abuse, torture and drugs they subjected children to in the MK-Ultra mind control program (all documented).

  3. Man oh man, we were sure pissed off at the southwestern U.S.
I wonder if we'll ever really know the environmental and health impact?
